Lagavulin Distillers Edition 2015 Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Lagavulin Distillers Edition is a peated whisky and has a very similar flavour profile to Lagavulin 16, with additional finishing in ex Pedro Ximénez sherry barrels. This adds additional fruitiness, sweetness and spice to join the the meaty peat usually found in Lagavulin. This an excellent, slightly more complex whisky than the regular 16yo, very easy to drink and is fantastic when tasted side-by-side with the standard 16yo release also to help distinguish the differences.

Tasting Notes:
Nose – sweet peat, caramel
Palate – peat smoke, slight sherry sultana sweetness, baking spice, oily mouth feel (not as thin as some younger peated whiskies)
Finish – much sweeter on the finish as the peat trails off, with hints of sultanas and nuts
ABV – 43%

Lagavulin Distillery was founded in 1816, only a year after Laphroaig and the distilleries have been in close competition ever since. The majority of Lagavulin’s spirit is aged in ex-bourbon barrels, with sherry used on occasion, often more approachable with meaty BBQ peat than its neighbour’s more medicinal peat.
