Lagavulin 16yo Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Lagavulin 16yo is moderately peated whisky with balanced notes of charred caramel throughout. This is an excellent, easy to drink peated whisky, with a great mouthfeel and quality for a reasonable price. The Lagavulin 16 is often one of the first peated whiskies I’d recommend to those looking to get into the exploring smokey whisky, as the balance of flavours and sweetness isn’t quite as intensely seaweed-y or medicinal as those found in some Laphroaig or Ardbeg whiskies.

Lagavulin Distillery was founded in 1816, only a year after Laphroaig and the distilleries have been in close competition ever since. The majority of Lagavulin’s spirit is aged in ex-bourbon barrels, with sherry used on occasion, often more approachable with meaty BBQ peat than its neighbour’s more medicinal peat.
